Merced Academy of Dance Founder & Director:
Jane Vann Bryan – Director
Member of The Royal Academy of Dancing, London, England and an affiliate of the American Academy of Ballet.
Jane founded and has directed Merced Academy since inception in 1986. Jane began her studies locally with
Una Willoughby and Eve Fox Beekman in 1961. After training with Children’s Dance Theater, San Francisco Ballet School, Carmel Ballet Academy, and The Royal Academy of Dancing in London, England, Jane moved to New York City
in 1974. There she studied at Joffrey Ballet School, and Harkness House for Ballet Arts, under the direction of
David Howard. Jane performed with Ballet Classique and became a member of their staff in 1976. Jane returned to Merced and founded Merced Academy of Dance (formerly Emma Grace Academy) in 1986. Recently Jane completed a Dance for Parkinson’s workshop and looks forward to sharing her love of dance with many of our community members with Parkinson’s disease. She is married to local neurologist Dr. Tom Bryan and has seven children.
